Employers seeking facebook access

Extensive research has shown that students need to encounter and become familiar with words that are used across all curriculum areas.  Students need to be able to identify and become comfortable with these words in multiple academic contexts and genres. Researchers have put out a list of the most valuable and frequently used words to assist students with NCEA.

As part of the Literacy Committee’s initiative this term, teachers and students will be asked to focus on 3 of these words a week.   

This weeks 3 words are:-

Perceive:  observe, notice, remark, distinguish, recognise, identify.  (Perception, perceiving)

Contrast:  differencem distinction, disparity, gap,, comparison

Component:  module, part, element, piece, cog, section

Marayke Bouma in 10 Tawa who has won the Summer Story Competition run by the School for Young Writers in Christchurch.  Her story will be published in the Winter edition of their magazine later this year and Marayke will receive a $100 Book Voucher. 

The judges have commented that work from all the Sacred Heart Students who entered this competition was of a very high standard and they encourage you all to keep writing and to enter the Re-Draft competition later this year.

Congratulations to Su Min Yoon for earning a place in the NZ team for the International Biology Olympics held in Singapore in July.

This is a prestigious accolade and the Science department and SHGC is immensely proud of her.
